Entry #4 The Weirdest Animals You've Never Heard Of: The Blobfish

When it comes to strange animals, the blobfish is by far one of the weirdest. Most people only know them from memes calling them "the world's ugliest animal," but the real story is they are really interesting sea creatures. Blobfish live deep in the ocean near Australia and New Zealand, where the pressure is so strong that most animals couldn't survive. Their soft, squishy bodies look normal underwater, but once they're brought to the surface, the lack of pressure makes them collapse into the blob shape everyone recognizes. To really understand the blobfish, you have to look past the jokes in memes and focus on the environment it lives in. Image source.

The blobfish's whole design is meant for survival, not looks. It doesn't have real muscles because it doesn't need them. In the deep ocean, food like crabs and sea creatures simply drifts by, so the blobfish just floats and eats whatever comes close. Its body is mostly jelly-like, so it can hover right above the ocean floor without sinking or wasting energy. Scientists say this is one of the smartest ways to survive in a place with almost no food. Even though it seems weird to us, the blobfish is actually perfectly built for where it lives. In the end, the blobfish is more than an internet joke. It's a reminder of how creative and surprising nature can be. Even the strangest-looking animals have a purpose and a place in the world. If you're someone who likes learning about unusual creatures or how animals adapt to their environment, the blobfish is a perfect example. It shows that even the weirdest animals can teach us something new. Image source.

  1. Hi Jayden, I like the way that you explained this. Many people think it looks weird but it's like that in order for it to survive. And at the bottom of the ocean where it lives its normal. It's not meant to be at the top of the ocean. I think there is an important lesson to it as well you might not be your best in one place but it's not because of you it's because it's the wrong place.

  2. I've been vaguely aware of the blob fish my whole life however it's nice to know that more about it. I especially enjoyed the aspect that due to it's lack of muscles it wastes little to no energy for food. I also didn't know they're seen specifically off near New Zealand and Australia.
