Entry #7 Food
I finish watching Food, Inc I was surprised to see how much of our food is produced by a small number of large companies and how little I truly knew about where it comes from. The movie shows animals in a factory farm, a slaughterhouse, and the industrial process that produces the food we buy in supermarkets. It also explains how grain is used in nearly every industry since it is popular and cheap rather than healthful. In the film, real video and interviews are used to show how the system functions and what it keeps from the viewers. I was mostly surprised and feeling bad at first. I have seen how badly animals are handled, mainly the chickens, which blows my mind.
I was also surprised to learn that the government also defends large corporations at the cost of regular citizens. It was clear how powerful corporations are when farmers were penalized for speaking out. The movie also served as a reminder of how processed and designed our food is, as how simple it is to ignore health dangers like chemicals and germs Food, Inc. does a good job getting people to consider how much food they eat and where it comes from. It seeks to open people's eyes and get them to think about the system that controls what they consume.
As we went over, Fresh is an affecting movie with different stories that shows how the production of food affects not just animals but also people, the environment, and society. After seeing that, I believe we should be worried because if we ignore such situations, the problems will continue.
Great explaining for your blog of reviewing the film Fresh. I definitely agree with the fact that food affects people, animals, and of course the environment.
ReplyDeleteWhile the messages are similar between the two films, the comparison in rhetoric and tone is quite evident with "Fresh" being hopeful & optimistic and "Food, Inc." using fear to encourage awareness and action.
